Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.
My Thoughts
At first, this book captured my attention. It did very well in keeping me interested in the first 50-100 pages. However, for me personally, I didn’t care for how it was written. I felt like I was being told the story instead of being a part of the story and witnessing it as it was happening.
For me, this is personal preference for writing styles. I prefer to feel like I am there, if it was written to show the story instead of telling, and made me feel like I was a part of the story, I would have enjoyed it more and rated it higher than I did.
I also didn’t get the point of the story. If there even was a point.
This book just wasn’t for me, however, if you don’t mind being told a story vs. being shown a story and you know you would enjoy it with this type of writing style then by all means, pick it up and give it a read.
There is a reason this book was turned into a TV series, that reason is beyond me but it may not be beyond you.
I’m actually the same way. If I don’t feel like I’m watching a movie in my head by the first few pages …. I’m out It just simply cannot hold my attention.
I could not get into this book. I felt it all over the place. Like Heather said above, if it doesn’t catch me right away, I’m over it.
I’m exactly the same way but I also need to be kept interested throughout.
